This is a feature used by MindManager.

A set of tags can be marked as 'exclusive' which means that an item can only be associated with one tag from this group. Curio's Priorities are rather similar; an item can only have one priority, it can't be simultaneously Priority 2 and Priority 3.

This is great for 'status' tags (and even GTD tags). In addition, Mindmanager allows the user to click the tag in the map and it changes to the next tag in the list. This means a 'Status' type tag could quickly be changed with two or three clicks within the Idea Space.

These need not be exclusively 'Status' tags of course, they could equally be countries, departments, geographies - anything where the tags can be considered 'exclusive.'
